OptiAUS is pleased to advise that Registration is now OPEN for this year’s 2018 Gill OptiAUS Championship. This event is traditionally the largest single class sailing regatta in Australia and, as with previous years, the OptiAUS Committee has continued its practice of working closely with the Host Clubs to create a festival of fun for all competitors and extended family.
The event draws the top Opti sailors in Australia and we are looking forward to once more hopefully welcoming many visiting overseas competitors
The Host Club, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, is one of the most active regatta clubs in Australia, and the crew at RQYS is positively looking forward to hosting a great week of racing for all levels – from entry through to Intermediate and Open. In this respect, the Green Fleet will again be offered coaching for each day of the racing with some additional fun and games planned for off water too.
We are also pleased to advise that XSP (Xtreme Sailing Products) will again be leasing charter boats at the event and providing onsite Chandlery sales and support.
The on shore schedule of events this year for extended family will aim to create a fantastic holiday experience where children can enjoy sailing and supporting families can relax in Queensland’s beautiful sunshine at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
This year, we are also excited to announce that well known international sailing photographer, Matias Cappizzano will be on, in and possibly under the water – taking incredible photos of Opti action.
OptiAUS, would like to extend its thanks to Gill Australia for sponsoring the class – we really value and appreciate this support.
For those not aware the Optimist class continues to grow in Australia and provides the largest pathway class in the country. To this end the Australian International Optimist Dinghy Association/OptiAUS, Australian Sailing, State Opti Associations and Sailing Clubs around the country are actively putting in place initiatives that offer development at every level of Optimist sailing, through to options at the high performance end of the spectrum, thereby allowing sailors of all ability to achieve their goals and dreams plus have some serious fun.

See you in sunny Queensland ….. “Beautiful one day, perfect the next “
