Meet Sam Mackay, the OptiAUS appointed AOST NZ Team Coach heading to the 2017 Toyota Optimist Nationals .....
Sam comes to us from New Zealand with a wealth of sailing experience, including top 3 placings at the NZ Nationals in each of the Optimist, P Class, 420 and Starling classes. He was a member of the Nations Cup winning NZ team at the 2007 Optimist Worlds and placed in the top 20 in the 2008 Optimist Worlds. Sam is also an accomplished Match Racer, winning the NZ Youth Match Racing Nationals in 2014.
Introducing Shelley White, originally from Yeppoon a small town in Nth Qld, this Opti Coach was the 2008 Opti National Champion and Australia's 1st Female Champion and has been sailing now for 16 yrs. Being a part of junior sailing in Australia has offered Shelley some rewards, helping young sailors develop skills and as people, coaching both the Queensland Optimist Team and recently working alongside Rob Brewer with 10 members of the Aust Optimist Sailing Team at 2016 IODA Cinnamon Asian & Oceanian Championships in Sri Lanka.
Hi I am Alex Zimmermann, I have been based in Perth for almost four years now. I am an Australian Distinguished Talent Sports Permanent Resident Visa holder. Have been coaching the Western Australian Optimist Team while also completing my commerce University degree and keeping active with my own sailing taking part in a few Laser and Sunfish regattas each year.
Alison Dale from Victoria has an extensive background in high performance sailing and she is passionate about the development of our next generation of sailors. Alison will be travelling to New Caledonia this year with the Australian Optimist Development Squad (AODS). Alison is 22 years old and has recently graduated as a Physiotherapist and is currently working at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
Tom has an extensive background in both high performance sailing and club development and is heading away to the North American Championships in 2016. He is also spending time working with the Sri Lankan Optimist team and will be at the Asian Championships. Tom has worked locally with the AOST for a number of years and also traveled away with the Asians team in 2012.
